Poggio di Sotto – A truly unique vineyard experience, the Poggio di Sotto is known for its unusually high altitute (for a vineyard) as well as its amazing views, with the volcano Monte Amiata on one side and the Orcia river on the other. The wine from this vineyard is part of the “super Tuscans” family, well known for being a superior wine with a complex taste. Come for the views and stay for the tastings.
Renzo Marinai – This well-loved 30-hectare property is located in the Panzano area of Chianti. Originally used to sow wheat, the property was converted into a vineyard and has since become the home of this much-loved vineyard.
Castello Banfi – Founded by two brothers with a goal of creating a state-of-the-art winery, the Castello Banfi is not only a sight to behold but is also created with the integrity of the wine in mind. The 7,100 acres of land extends south of Montalcino, with more than one third of that covered in grape vines. While producing over 11 million bottles of wine a year makes it difficult to produce the most complex wine, Castello Banfi has managed to retain quality control. Many visitors like to stay on the property for a wine and dine experience that can only be described as luxurious.
Castello di Fonterutoli – A true wine dynasty, this beautiful vineyard has been in the Mazzei family for nearly 600 years. From the untouched green fields to the lush vineyards, this is an idyllic spot to take it all in.
Castello di Brolio – This vineyard is part of a lot that includes a 12th century Lombardic castle. That alone is enough to put it on the list for most people, but combined with remarkable grounds, a very impressive wine cellar and a small museum this becomes a must-see. The property is owned by the Ricasole family, who created what is today known as the Chianti recipe, which changed forever the way we think of Italian wines.
