DAY 1 CUSCO
Our guides greet you at the airport in Cusco and transfer you to your hotel. The morning is at your leisure to acclimatize to the high altitude.* Our tour begins after lunch with a short orientation followed by a drive to the impressive site of Tambomachay, the site of ritual baths and the Temple of the Water. You will enjoy and a short downhill walk to the old Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the scene of the last battle between the Incas and the Spanish. Later in the evening, we will take a short walk to dinner at a local restaurant specializing in Peruvian cuisine.

DAY 2 CUSCO
After breakfast, our Peruvian guides take you on a walking tour of Cusco and acquaint you with the history and culture of this ancient city. Explorations take you over the cobbled streets as you visit both the Inca and Spanish Colonial cultural and religious sites within the city. We visit the city centre, the old Spanish cathedral, and conclude in the shopping and restaurant area of San Blas. Enjoy lunch with our guide who will help you choose special Peruvian dishes. The remainder of the afternoon is on your own. Choose between exploring the shops of San Blas and transferring back to the hotel for some leisure time.

DAY 3 SACRED VALLEY
Depart for the Sacred Valley. Visit the colorful and lively markets of either Pisac or Chinchero. We will stop to visit local weavers, learn about the 2,000 year old weaving techniques of the Incas, and the importance to contemporary Andean culture. http://www.textilescusco.org/eng/index.htm
We will enjoy lunch together at a specially chosen restaurant. In the afternoon, we visit a ceramic seminario where you can see finished products of pre-Columbian ceramic replicas.

DAY 4 SACRED VALLEY
Hike from the Maras Salt Mines down into the Sacred Valley. Explore the Inca Fortress at Ollantayambo, a massive stone structure, perfectly sculpted into the mountain side by ancient Incan craftsman. After hiking through the ruins, we take a walking tour of the quaint Peruvian town below and enjoy a short visit to one of the most beautiful towns in the Sacred Valley, with its cobblestone streets and town square. Afternoon at leisure.

DAY 5 AGUAS CALIENTE
Say good-bye to the Sacred Valley and take in the scenery during the train ride up to marker 104. Hike the ancient stones and stairs of the Inca trail. Enter Machu Picchu through the “Gate of the Sun” and take in the awe inspiring view. Take a guided tour of the ancient outpost for the Inca Royalty. Marvel over the intricate stonework of the Inca’s lost city and learn about the special astrological symbols.
For those who do not get a permit for the Inca trail or prefer an easier option, we will continue on the train from marker 104 to the river-side town of Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, we will check into our hotel, unpack, and enjoy lunch. We then board the bus to Machu Picchu and hike up to Intipunku to meet the rest of the group. Lunch served at the Sanctuary Lodge upon your arrival in Machu Picchu.

DAY 6
Meet with your guide at breakfast and take an early morning tour of Machu Picchu or take a short hike to the cloud forest to explore ancient Inca pathways. Farewell lunch at the Inkaterra followed by a late departure for the train station and onto Cusco on the Vistadome Train. Our return to Cusco is late due to the length of the train ride. We suggest that you snack on the train on the way back.

DAY 7
